Some Things You May Have Missed From the Last Week ( - or so)
World Soccer magazine’s images of the year are well worth a bit of time; a yearly edition of the weekly feature. A fine publication in its own right, the past year has seen a redevelopment of their web presence from a simple page to a full-fledged site with daily content, and exclusive posts from some of their esteemed stable.
A touch outdated by now, but MLSsoccer.com’s Best of 2011 series was a fitting end to the calendar year as the build to the new season commences. Game, Transaction, Controversy, Celebration, Play Call, Gaffe, and Moment of the year, amongst others, were decided. Pay particular attention to the Quotes of the season.
Stadium Porn, one of the more unadulterated topic-specific sites available has a look at the renovation plans for Montreal’s own Stade Saputo. The mission of delivering eye candy in the form of actual pictures and artist’s renderings of planned developments is well-met in this wonderful website. Whether in progress, proposed or completed, they will satisfy your architectural fix.
The Non-League Football Show, a vehicle to stay in touch with the less-glamourous reaches of the English period is rumoured to be under threat with the next round of BBC cuts. Hosted by Caroline Barker, and a favourite pod of mine, they let loose for the holidays and gift the public their own rendition – with Non-League themed lyrical substitutions - of The Pogues’ Fairytale of New York. Well worth a listen, it closes out the show. It’s the December 26th Edition you’re looking for, but subscribe anyways.
