Book of the Month – When Friday Comes Football in the War Zone by James Montague – Chapter Seven - Palestine

In Bethlehem, University politics taken to a new dimension, Women’s football – a seed planted some twenty years prior – beginning to slowly flower; Honey, quite the right foot.

The walls fall down a little at a time these days.

For the Men, FIFA recognition - a step forward; failure in qualification for the World Cup - a step back; restrictions prove insurmountable.

The tension of a ‘Milk’ Cup penalty shootout gets the better of one player; a cheeky smoke before the kicks commence, hiding in plain sight. Victory lies in God’s hands, as it always does, but which side will garner favour.

A few shekels, desperately little, a hurried and fortunate return. Ironic signage in desperate times; graffiti more explicit in its declarations.
