Book of the Month – When Friday Comes: Football in the War Zone by James Montague -- Chapter One – Qatar

Had intended to split this chapter in two, but it was too entertaining of a read to put it down. Sweltering heat; big named stars - Marcel Desailly, Pep Guardiola, Gabriel Batistuta, & Ronald Koeman; a larger than life character; a lot jammed into some twenty-odd pages.

Very interesting observations on the tiny Gulf State’s interests in hosting big sporting events and their ability to properly handle their magnitude; especially given the shock award of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.

If that all wasn’t enough for a stellar introductory chapter, an illustrative tale on a peculiar visit from both Pelé and Diego Maradona, and their reception by the media and the masses.
